I read this book while traveling on a train from Berlin to Paris. Looking out at the peaceful European countryside made the chaos in the book feel even more real. Let me share how it felt. While the train moved smoothly, my mind was stuck in the dusty, dangerous roads of Lauren’s world. It was a very powerful experience that made me hold my backpack a little tighter.

When I was passing through the French border, the part where Lauren first has to leave her home really got to me. I felt the fear and the courage it takes to step into the unknown. It took me 7 nights to finish it properly. I would read about 45 pages every night at the hotels. This book connected with me because it shows that even when the world is ending, people can still choose to be kind and build something new. My honest rating: 4.9/5.

What I Learned From This Book

The biggest lesson I learned is that change is the only constant in life. We can’t stop it, but we can shape it. Lauren’s “hyperempathy” also taught me that feeling other people’s pain is actually a strength, not a weakness. It makes you care enough to survive and help others.
