The Mission for Michael

Liz Buxbaum has always been obsessed with romantic movies. When her childhood crush, Michael, moves back to town, she is determined to have her “movie moment” with him. But there is one problem: Michael is friends with Wes Bennett, the guy who has been annoying Liz since they were kids.

An Unexpected Partnership

To get close to Michael, Liz has to make a deal with Wes. They start spending a lot of time together to plan how Liz can win Michael’s heart. But as they fake-date and hang out, Liz starts to realize that the real Wes is very different from the annoying neighbor she thought she knew. He actually listens to her and shares her love for music.

The Realization

As the prom approaches, Liz find herself caught between the perfect movie romance she always wanted and the real, messy feelings she is developing for Wes. The book explores themes of grief, friendship, and learning that real life can be even better than what you see on the big screen.

Babar Raja’s Personal Review

Reading this on a train from Paris to Amsterdam

I read this book while traveling on a high-speed train from Paris to Amsterdam. The French countryside was flying past my window. Let me share how it felt. I usually like travel guides, but this story was so catchy that I forgot to look outside! It felt like I was watching a bright, colorful movie while sitting in my seat.

When I was nearing the Belgian border, the part where Wes and Liz talk about their favorite soundtracks really got to me. It made me feel very nostalgic. It took me 5 nights to finish it. I would read about 75 pages every night before bed at my hostels. This book connected with me because it shows that sometimes the best things in life are right in front of us, even if we don’t see them at first. My honest rating: 4.8/5.

What I Learned From This Book

I learned that we shouldn’t try to force our lives to look like a movie script. Real life is full of surprises and people who might annoy us at first but end up being our favorites. Liz taught me that it is okay to be a romantic, but you also have to keep your eyes open to the people who truly care about you. It’s a powerful lesson about being yourself and letting love happen naturally instead of planning every second. It made my trip feel a bit more magical.
